A sewer line or water line failure that occurs underground is a big problem. Fortunately, your Roanoke plumbing experts at Southern Trust Home Services have the equipment and the expertise to take some of the pain out of the process with trenchless pipe replacement.

The traditional method of replacing sewer and water lines meant bringing in a backhoe and digging a trench down to the level of the pipe. It’s bad enough having your yard torn up. It gets worse when, in order to reach all of the pipe that needs to be replaced, the plumber has to tear up sidewalks, walkways, and porches. Repairing that kind of damage really inflates the cost of having pipe replaced.

The better way to do it is trenchless pipe replacement. We dig a much smaller hole down to the level of the pipe so we can cut into it to repair or replace it with either a liner or all-new pipe. Trenchless pipe repair might seem like it’s more expensive, but it has multiple advantages, with the main one being that you won’t need to pay to repair other damage to your home or property caused by open trenching. It’s also faster than digging a trench and the results are just as good as traditional methods. We’ll replace your sewer or water lines with pipe that will last for decades.

Once we can access the pipes, there are several ways that we can repair them. One way is to insert a felt liner impregnated with epoxy resin that we inflate to the size of the damaged pipe and then heat to cure the epoxy. A second method is to spray a lining on the inside of the damaged pipe with either an epoxy or a polymer that’s then cured and seals any holes in the pipe. A third method is called pipe bursting that uses a bursting head that breaks apart the old pipe while pulling replacement pipe, typically a high-density polyethylene pipe, in behind it. A fourth method is called slip lining, which involves pulling a smaller pipe through the damaged pipe.

In all cases, our video pipe inspection cameras can show you exactly what we’re doing. If you’re having problems with your underground pipes, call us at Southern Trust Home Services at (540) 343-4348, and we’ll be out before you know it!
